From the Office of the District Attorney:
Martinez, Calif. – The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office filed a two-count felony complaint against a Brentwood man involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Walnut Creek.
Arck Marquez Ramirez, 29, is being charged with Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated — which is a violation of PC191.5(a) — and Driving Under The Influence of an Alcoholic Beverage Causing Injury [VC23153(a)]. Both felony charges include enhancements for fleeing the scene of a crime and inflicting great bodily injury to the victim, Chung Thu Thi “Tammy” Le.
On October 1, 2022, around 7:00 pm, Ms. Le was struck by a vehicle while she was in a crosswalk at the intersection of North California Boulevard and Civic Drive. She later died from her injuries at a local hospital. Le was the owner of a nail salon in Walnut Creek. She leaves behind a husband and three children.
The Walnut Creek Police Department took the lead in investigating the fatal collision by gathering witness statements and reviewing surveillance camera images. Once they identified the driver as Ramirez, he was placed under arrest on October 14th and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility – where his bail has been set at $300,000.
Ramirez’s arraignment date will be set by the Superior Court of California, County of Contra Costa.
Lives changed — and ended — in an instant. For what?
If the accident happened 10/1 and he was arrested on 10/14 – how do they prove he was under the influence ?
