Fireworks caused the early morning June 17 grassfire that burned more than 100 acres of grassland in the open space south of Jacqueline Drive in Pittsburg, a fire that ultimately threatened 100 homes and prompted the evacuation of approximately 2,200 residents, Con Fire officials said Wednesday.
The blaze, first reported at 2 a.m. prompted a four-alarm response from both Con Fire and Cal Fire, with more than 100 firefighters and support personnel dispatched to the scene after flames came uncomfortably close to nearby homes.
The fire was ultimately extinguished at 6 a.m., burning some 121 acres.
No civilians or firefighters were reported injured and investigators continue their effort to find the person or persons responsible for setting off the fireworks, officials said.
