A 20-year-old Concord man was arrested after allegedly firing several shots during an altercation in downtown Danville early Sunday morning.
Police responded to the area of Hartz Avenue and Diablo after receiving reports of a man firing a gun outside bars in the area shortly after 1 a.m. Readers contacting this site reported hearing gunshots outside a bar in the area, then seeing what they took to be a fight of some type with a man on the ground and people scattering, some taking cover inside businesses in the area.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect, who had allegedly been involved in a fight with another man, draw a weapon of undetermined type and fire shots into the air before a group of men wrestled the weapon away from him. The incident drew a significant police response, with officers from several jurisdictions responding.
Danville Police Chief Allan Shields, reaching out on a Sunday (thanks, Chief), wrote that Jacob Filipo of Concord allegedly fired a gun into the ground and across the street from 340 Hartz Avenue, in the direction of parked vehicles and closed businesses, after a fight had taken place.
Officers determined that the men who reportedly disarmed the suspect jumped into a car with the weapon and left the scene, driving in the direction of the freeway. A police search for the vehicle turned up nothing.
A man believed injured in the initial altercation was located and interviewed when he turned up at local hospital. Filipo was taken into custody at the scene and faces charges of shooting a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, and resisting arrest. He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on an outstanding warrant for eight counts of burglary and conspiracy. His bail was set at $395,000.

Which bar???
Thanks for the alerts!
Certainly, Lisbeth… glad to have you with us!
Everyone has a gun. Except me.
He’ll be out in time for a Memorial Day’s BBQ.
Video?
None that we know of at this time, Doug.
When did people start taking guns with them when they go out?
Around here? Circa 1844; if not sooner. Zero chance early European explorers ventured this far inland without firearms.

“outstanding felony warrants”…and “out on parole” seem to be the line in every report of criminal activity now.
Maybe some people need to spend more time in jail! (Not be sprung free like the 20,000 inmates California has dumped out onto the innocent public)
….not going to happen here….but Greg, you know that….
It’s the Wild West out there…………….even in Danville. I don’t leave home without mine………………HR218. 108RS
Alcohol weapos and testosterone — what could go wrong?
And another gun still on the streets.
Sounds like all involved were criminals.
“A 20-year-old Concord man was arrested after allegedly firing several shots during an altercation in downtown Danville early Sunday morning.” He was arrested for that? With every citizen firing a gun and a half every day and a half, I didn’t realize that was prosecutable. Throw the book at him. Make him collect garbage along the Iron Horse Trail.
Thank the DA for him being out on the streets.
