A truck-trailer rig sheared a hydrant on Acalanes Road in Lafayette Thursday, creating either an impromptu free car wash or the city’s latest water feature, depending on your preference.

Gushing water is no laughing matter these days, of course, so the city mobilized to turn off the geyser as soon as possible.
