Driver Disrupts Al Fresco Parklet Experience In Walnut Creek Monday

Parklets – those nifty little oases of respite from the urban landscape – have enjoyed increasing favor from cities and towns looking for ways to calm traffic and give people a chance to dine in a pleasant downtown environment.

We admire the thinking behind the approach but have questioned the wisdom of having a parklet on a working and still-busy city street.

A passersby snapped our lead photo of an individual – reportedly leaving a local watering hole – attempting a U-turn in the 1500 block of Locust Street Monday and plowing through the designated parklet outside Vitality Bowls while attempting to egress the area.

We believe police were summoned but we’re not sure what action was taken.
