The northbound lanes of Interstate 680 north of Center Avenue are blocked at this hour (10:50 a.m.) after a single-car crash left one person dead and debris spread across several lanes of roadway.
A SigAlert has been declared with lanes blocked and no estimate given for reopening.
The crash was reported at 10:24 a.m., the force of the accident so great it split the car in half and knocked off its wheels. A 20-year-old female passenger in the car was declared deceased at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the 22-year-old male driver was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for treatment of major injuries.
Both passenger and driver were from Milpitas, according to the CHP.
CHP investigators determined that a lone 2003 Nissan 350z had veered from the lanes of traffic and into the concrete center divider. It then veered to the right back across the lanes of traffic and off the roadway, colliding into the concrete sound wall located just east of the freeway, causing major damage.
Another one? So many lately.
I would think you would have to be zipping right along to tear a car in half. Am I wrong?
Didn’t look good
Bad news for another family and right at the holiday. So sad.
Crashes all over the place today. Crazy slick and people are driving like race car racers.
