Political Rallies/Protests Take To Lamorinda Overpasses Friday

SHARE

Two groups took to highly visible locations in Lamorinda Friday to make their political beliefs known, one coming out to express support for the Biden/Harris presidential ticket on the St. Stephens overpass in Orinda while a group opposed to the current president and racism took position a little further east on the El Curtola Bridge overpass.

Lafayette PD moved into the neighborhood around El Curtola after protestors positioned cars blocking traffic in the area, eventually closing El Curtola between Old Tunnel and Camino Diablo at 5:05 p.m.

Camino Diablo was also closed from the city public works yard to the Walnut Creek border, with all traffic diverted due to the protest.

The St. Stephens contingent apparently gathered peacefully, planning to disperse at 6 p.m., while the El Curtola Rally, also scheduled to go to 6 p.m., continued with police in the area.

No incidents, arrests have been reported that we are aware of at this time.

    • There’s a side that advocates police murdering Black people? Let me know the next time they’re there so I can counterprotest.

  1. I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
    It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all

  2. I’m tired of saying “I can’t believe he’s done this to us.” I just want things to get back to some semblance of normalcy.

  3. I just want America to be America again. We’re going to need each other if we’re going to make it through this.

  4. Why can’t people express themselves without trying to hurt other people? Why was it necessary to block the road? What would have happened if emergency vehicles needed to use that bridge? These actions don’t get me to appreciate their point of view. Just the opposite.

  5. Did Lafayette PD issue a parking ticket to that car for blocking the road? Probably not. Different rules for different people….

    • We don’t speak for LPD so we can’t say if they issued a cite but we do know they took a dim view of the blockage and moved to remove it.
