A rollover crash on eastbound Highway 24 left a child dead after she was ejected from the car she was in Sunday, callers reporting the accident just east of Gateway Boulevard shortly after 9 a.m.
Officers found the car, on its roof, and with a woman and child nearby – at 9:12 a.m. The child, whose age was not given, was transported to a local hospital where she was declared dead of her injuries.
An initial investigation determined that the unidentified female driver, 23 years old from Oakland, was driving a KIA sedan eastbound on Highway 24 when she lost control of the vehicle, in the rain, and overturned onto the dirt shoulder. The child passenger was ejected from the vehicle, according to the CHP, causing major injuries.
The driver was not injured.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected in this collision but this incident is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the accident or the events leading up to it is asked to contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez at (925) 646-4980.

Anytime someone is ejected from the vehicle there is a good chance seat belts/car seat were not being used or used properly.
