We’re Cracking A Little…

When you think of it, with most of the country locked down and steering clear of others, we’ve been doing a pretty great job. That effort is starting to have a positive impact on our overall hospitalization rates – something for which we are endlessly grateful – even as we mourn those we have lost.

That said, we also know it’s tough to remain cooped up alone or with others – and some folks are starting to let the rest of us down. Domestic squabbles seem to be inching up in frequency and less-than-civil behavior is occurring on our roads and still-open public spaces as Those Who Don’t Play Well With Others choose this time to act out. Not appreciated, but human – we guess, there’s always that One Guy who believes it’s his God-Given right to do a Sinatra and continue doing things His Way.

We had hoped people would remain on their best behavior, which so many of you have while venturing out and about, and continue to drive safely, wear pants in public, and not act out – because if you do someone will likely have to deal with you, up close and personally. But some folks – perhaps dependent on certain pharmaceuticals or maybe just tired of abiding by the rules – are losing their stuff and doing pretty dumb things, some of which have landed them on our pages.

With the obvious downside presented by our attempt to quell this pandemic we’ve also seen some good result – less traffic (if, perhaps, speedier), cleaner air, less noise, a move toward telecommuting, and creation of pedestrian-only spaces.

Whether these benefits remain for us after these times eventually pass remains to be seen, as we happen to believe we are a Nation of Amnesiacs – quick to forget and to fall back on old ways.

We shall see.
