Crew Arrested In Lafayette After Earlier Theft In Moraga Wednesday

Lamorinda police descended on a car containing four people suspected of an earlier theft at the TJ Maxx store in Moraga Wednesday.

Police responded to the area after the incident was reported at 10:55 a.m. The suspects were seen leaving the area in a car and a description of that vehicle was shared with Lafayette police, who spotted it in their city a short time later.

Lafayette PD officers stopped the car, which had been reported stolen, and detained the four people inside during a dramatic moment outside the ACE Hardware location.

Officers recovered property allegedly stolen from TJ Maxx and the suspects were positively identified by witnesses as being involved in the theft, police said.

The suspects: Jimmy Swearengin, 53, Major Mack, 55, Shirley Johnson, 32, and Tony Richard, 44, all from Oakland, were arrested by Moraga police and later booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on a variety of charges including Conspiracy, Probation Violations, and Vehicle Theft.

  1. Not exactly youngsters, were they? Funny how they came from Oakland, in a car they stole to do their shop(lift)ing in Lamorinda.
