An Orinda man wanted for questioning in a Walnut Creek sexual assault case held police SWAT teams at bay for several hours after fleeing to his home on Hall Drive Friday and allegedly arming himself with a shotgun.
Walnut Creek police had initially attempted to interview David Martin Justice at the residence in the 200 block of Hall Drive shortly after 2 p.m. but ended up giving chase after Justice, 41, fled the home in a Mercedes – officers giving chase.
Neighbors said they saw Justice return to the residence a short time later. As police from Lamorinda and Walnut Creek closed in, Justice allegedly emerged with a shotgun pointed at his face, threatening suicide.
A police special weapons team filtered into the neighborhood, surrounded Justice’s home and reportedly evacuated neighbors in at least two others as they commenced negotiations with the local man.
Those negotiations continued until approximately 6 p.m., when Justice reportedly surrendered to officers.
Anxious neighbors watched as heavily armed special weapons officers and canine teams filtered into the neighborhood, police and media helicopters hovering overhead.
A BearCat armored car, mobile command vehicle, and other police assets deployed on scene.
Justice will be booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on a warrant for multiple counts of PC 261, sexual assault, with a bail amount of $5,000,000, according to police.
Wow. I hope this ends well, and no one is hurt.
Hope it turns out. Don’t want to see anyone hurt in this.
Glad it ended well
Well that was intense. Your Flashes……
Orinda seems to be getting more than their fair share of incidents lately.
Crazy.
Can we just take a little break from this stuff. Just for a little while????
Those flash alerts. Wow.
Too much?
Hope he gets some help.
There was a back story to the standoff, Lexi. This man was wanted for questioning by Walnut Creek PD for sexual assaults.
It’s not going to be like this around here all the time now is it?
If it is we hope it will hold off until we can hire about five more reporters.
glad they talked him down
Thanks for your coverage!
You bet… thanks for your time.
Common sense tells me to always lock my car doors when travelling through Orinda. Not safe.
This is really getting to be too much.
Did he go to Miramonte?????
Yes class of 96 or 97.
Definitely not good. Scary seeing all those police in town again.
Multiple attacks????
How do I get your alerts?
Have we had multiple sexual assaults in Walnut Creek recently?
“Those negotiations continued until approximately 6 p.m., when Justice reportedly surrendered to officers. ” I’m not surprised. How long could Justice survive in these times and under these circumstances?
He’s a flight risk, so it’s nice to see the high bail amount. Bail for rape in CA is usually $100,000. He needs to stay in jail where he belongs.
And the hits just keep on coming.
