A 38-year-old Hayward man was killed early Friday after the Nissan Sentra he was driving crashed into a dump truck, rolled over and then ended up on its roof nestled against the center median of I680 near Treat Boulevard.
Investigators said the crash occurred at 1:59 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I680 just north of Treat, with initial findings revealing that the unidentified driver of the Nissan was southbound on I680 when for reasons yet unknown his car veered across lanes and impacted the rear of the dump truck.
The Nissan rolled and collided into the concrete center wall and sustained major damage, partially trapping the driver – who apparently was not wearing a seat belt at the time – inside, according to the CHP.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said the dump truck driver was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation. It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs played a role.
