Coroners officials Monday identified the man killed in a solo car crash on Camino Tassajara at Charbray late Friday night as Austin Nixon, 22, of Danville.
Nixon died after his BMW struck a tree at that location, trapping him inside his car. He was eventually extricated and rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead Saturday morning.
California CHP investigators have yet to officially comment on the crash through neighbors reported hearing the sound of an engine revving moments before hearing a “thunderous” crash on Camino Tassajara.
Neigbhbors found the wreckage of Nixon’s car while investigating the source of the noise.
Evidence of alcohol use was found inside the car but investigators have not indicated if it played any role in the crash. Investigators have also not said how fast Nixon’s car was believed to have been going at the time of the crash, though witnesses said it was “wrapped around” the tree it struck at around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
A person identifying themselves as a friend of the deceased said he was a 2015 graduate of Monte Vista High School, where he was listed as a representative of the Car Club, and that he was currently pursuing an engineering degree at Purdue University.
