A 25-year-old Alameda man died after he was reported in distress and unresponsive in a car parked outside a Safeway store in San Ramon Tuesday.

It was believed a friend of the stricken man, identified by coroner’s deputies Wednesday as Jett Rollins, 25, first notified police, reporting that he was unconscious and not breathing in a Volkswagen parked outside the store at around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Police and firefighters dispatched to the Safeway parking lot on Bollinger Canyon Road determined that Rollins had died prior to their arrival. The cause of death remains under investigation.
