What’s the saying? “A portrait is worth a thousand words?” Well, here’s a chance to express how you view yourself with a self-portrait painting at an AboutFace workshop designed for military veterans. Each two-day workshop is at NO COST with all supplies provided.
The workshops in March, April and May 2019 will be led by experienced artist Victoria Bianco and veteran Felisa Gaffney, and offer veterans an opportunity for art, self-expression and engagement. Participants will be asked to explore their experiences as a military veteran, and share their story of transition to civilian life through a self portrait. Participants will walk away with a finished 18” x 24” painting offering a glimpse of how they see themselves.
Contra Costa County is offering AboutFace workshops to encourage arts learning and the artistic expression of veterans, and to contribute to public appreciation for the diversity of their experiences. AboutFace is rooted in the California Arts Council’s desire to address the needs and improve the lives of California’s veterans through quality arts programming that is sensitive and responsive to veterans’ unique experiences.
AboutFace workshops will be held at the March, April and May 2019 dates and locations below. A gallery showing of the work will be presented to the public in fall 2019.
