Flooding, Tipping Trees, Crashes – Make Wednesday Commute Messy At Best

Steady rainfall has loosened root systems, filled storm drains, flooded intersections and slickened roadways in the 24/680 Wednesday – and when the human factor gets added to the equation, things are going wrong fast.

Walnut Creek awoke to find it’s major thoroughfare truncated by a tree trunk early Wednesday, closing down Ygnacio Valley Road between from Walnut Boulevard to Civic and frustrating already frustrated drivers attempting to get to work.

Another tree came down on San Pablo Dam Road and a crash there further impacted traffic on that “road less travelled” out of Orinda, with fire crews having to extricate the driver of a car who crashed in the 6500 block of San Pablo Dam Road.

Other trees are leaning, some threatening to take wires down with them, and more crashes are being reported as more people take to the roads. A crash at Springhill and Pleasant Hill Roads further jammed the always busy route.

Emergency crews are busy and there’s a lot for them to do this morning. We’re hoping everyone is able to get to work safely.
