A 28-year-old youth soccer coach was arrested Friday in a police sting operation aimed at adults attempting to arrange for sex with minors met through the Internet.
Alejandro Sanchez, an assistant coach at the Lamorinda Soccer Club headquartered in Moraga, was arrested for allegedly trying to arrange a meeting with an undercover police decoy. He was released Saturday after posting bail.
Investigators said Sanchez was caught up in an ongoing investigating targeting adults seeking to have sex with children. The coach, who worked with the club’s Under 10 Girls, was placed on an unpaid leave with the club stating in a letter to parents that he would no longer have access to its membership or playing fields.
Unspecified charges are expected to be brought against Sanchez later in the week, though in their letter to parents the Lamorinda Soccer Club stressed that he’d undergone a thorough background check and that his arrest was based on an alleged conversation he’d had with an undercover police officer.
An attempt to reach club directors for comment over the weekend proved initially unsuccessful.
Sanchez’s arrest is the latest in a string of arrests resulting from an ongoing undercover operation led by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s office.
