LAFAYETTE, CALIF., Dec. 20, 2018 — In keeping with past practice, the Lafayette City Council last night voted to seek applications and conduct interviews to fill a seat on the Council made vacant with the passing of Councilmember Mark Mitchell in November. The vote was unanimous.
The Council will accept applications starting today through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019. Anyone who is a registered voter within the city limits of Lafayette can apply to fill the term, which ends December 2020. The application form can be found here. Completed applications should be emailed to the attention of the City Clerk at cityhall@lovelafayette.org.
The Council will review applications and conduct interviews the week of January 7, 2019, and expects to pass a resolution to fill the vacant seat by January 11, 2019. Applicants should be available for possible interviews during the evenings of January 7, 8, and 11, 2019. The new Councilmember will be seated at the Council’s first meeting of the New Year on January 14, 2019.
“I would like to thank the members of the public who took the time to attend meetings and provide insightful and sincere public comment on this very important matter,” said Lafayette Mayor Cameron Burks.
“The discourse, on all sides of the debate, was civil and respectful and, again, demonstrates the passion in our community to come together, get involved, speak up, and advocate for what folks truly believe is in the best interest of Lafayette,” Mayor Burks added.
