Whoops. Corrections Department Employee Admits To Accidental Discharge At Sun Valley Mall

Concord police say a man who fired his pistol at Sun Valley Mall Sunday was picking up the weapon after dropping it on the ground near the mall’s Cinnabon outlet – and came forward to identify himself as a Department of Corrections employee after police asked for public help in identifying him.

The incident, which touched off a sizable police response when it occurred at 4:07 p.m. Sunday, has been referred to the CDCR personnel division for their review, according to police. The gun owner’s name and his position with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was not given.

Shoppers told officers the man appeared to have dropped the weapon Sunday and that it discharged as he picked it up. Police did not say where the round impacted but they did say that “luckily, no one was injured.”

Surveillance cameras captured an image of the man as he left the mall with the woman pictured.

Thats what Concord PD wrote on their facebook when this thing happened. Then the guy turns out tobe DOC and it’s all accidental and stuff. Seems like he called it in after he realized they had his picture.

Dropping your lethal weapon in the mall is not so good. Panicking and leaving without checking for possible damage, injuries is worse.
