UPDATE: 4:10 p.m. – We believe the person being sought by police made it through the Caldecott tunnel.
ORIGINAL POST: Officers from several police agencies are currently trailing a black 2000 Toyota utility vehicle running west on Highway 24 at speeds in excess of 95mph.
The driver of this vehicle is apparently wanted for attempted murder and is known to be equipped with an automatic AK-47 rifle and ballistic armor.
The last reported sighting of this vehicle was in Central Lafayette, heading west.
The chase ultimately ended in Oakland at 22nd Avenue near International Boulevard after the Toyota crashed and the driver, wanted by police in Vallejo, engaged pursuing officers with a weapon alternately described as an Uzi and AK-47 assault rifle.
The suspect, who was reportedly wearing body armor at the time, was hit several times by police gunfire but is believed to have survived the skirmish.
No police officers or civilians were injured.
