From Clayton PD:
On September 17, 2018, Clayton Police were made aware of a threat of violence towards Diablo View Middle School via a hacked social media account. An investigation was conducted and a student was arrested this morning.
Earlier today a search warrant was conducted with the assistance of the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office at the juvenile’s residence. The juvenile was booked at juvenile hall on PC 422 (Criminal Threats) and PC 530.5 (Identity Theft).
We do not believe there are any additional suspects. The investigation is continuing and there are no other apparent threats to the school at this time.
Whatever happened to kids being kids?
Still kids — but now they’re kids who know BASIC, C++, COBOL and FORTRAN.
I think kids are being kids, which isn’t always a good thing. This really isn’t a new phenomena. When I was in middle school in the late 70’s there were a number of bomb threats called in from students and I’m sure many other threats that didn’t get disseminated. So geez…that’s…gulp…40 years or so!
How old a juvenile was this juvenile?
In the bad old days they used to pull a fire alarm or maybe drop a firecracker into a urinal — today they hack into the school computer.
