Police in Goleta, Calif. have indicated that a man wanted for bank robbery in their city early Friday morning is the so-called “Faux Badge Bandit” and that he reportedly drove to a business not far away from his latest crime today, asked to use the rest room, and then shot himself while inside.
Danville Police Chief Allan Shields, in a written release, said his department received a report from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office that at approximately 10:45 a.m, a suspect identified as Keith David Goodwin, 41, of Fresno robbed a bank in Goleta. Goodwin fled the scene of the robbery and ran into a nearby nail salon where he went into the restroom. The building was evacuated and Goodwin was found dead in the bathroom of an apparent single gunshot wound.
Shields said Goodwin was their prime suspect in the July 12, 2018 robbery of the First Republic Bank in Danville, and that his investigators had been working closely with the FBI and other local agencies throughout the state to attempt to locate and arrest Goodwin.
Goodwin was suspected of robbing at least nine banks throughout California in the last two months.
Not exactly how I’d like to end my days.
No.
wow!!
Was this what you were talking about when you said people seemed to be reaching the end of their respective ropes?
Certainly wasn’t on our radar screen at the time we wrote that but… I would guess this qualifies.
How truly awful.
Sad and crazy and in the end the only person he ended up hurting was himself.
So now we know that gun was loaded.
Just driving around robbing banks? Gambling habit? Drugs? What would push someone to do this?
