In the latest in a recent series of incidents leaving San Ramon residents incredulous a Concord man was apprehended by police after fleeing from officers attempting to stop him for speeding, crashing his car into a home, and then running from officers closing in on the crash site.
According to a release issued by San Ramon Police Lt. Todd Santiago, Concord resident Lenny James Cabrera, 36, was allegedly speeding at Alcosta Blvd. and Estero Drive at approximately 10:50 a.m. Friday when an officer attempted to pull him over.
Police said Cabrero initially stopped, but then fled from the officer at a high rate of speed. No pursuit was initiated out of concern for public safety and limited visibility due to fog, Santiago said, but an officer did follow at a safe distance until Cabrero crashed into a house at Vera Cruz and Montevideo Drive, fleeing the scene on foot.
Police set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, eventually locked down Montevideo Elementary School as a precaution, and searched for Cabrera with a canine team and East Bay Regional Parks Helicopter until residents in the Country Brook Loop apartments pointed him out to police.
Officers responded to the area and arrested Cabrera at gunpoint at 12:10 p.m., according to Lt. Santiago. Officers eventually determined that Cabrera was wanted on two felony arrest warrants and, after taking him to the hospital for observation, booked him into the Martinez Detention Facility for misdemeanor evading, misdemeanor hit and run, a $739,000 warrant out of Concord for felony drug, identity theft and grand theft charges and a $355,000 warrant from Pleasant Hill PD for felony drug, identity theft, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.
No injuries were reported during the incident.

Wow.
@Daniella – ‘Xactly right.
Another incident? Separate from the shooting right?
@B – That’s correct. Unrelated incident.
That’s it. I’m going on vacation. Some place nice and quiet where nothing every happens – like Hawaii.
@Adam – Ha! Perfect. Get in some snorkeling. Dodge an incoming ballistic missile. Grab a mai tai…
Need I say more, that early release felons and wanted-on-warrants thugs are all out of jail and running amuck around us! They need to be in jail, and be kept there until reformed
and rehabilitated. This catch and release system is not working. The police work hard to catch the criminals and most often some liberal judge turns right back loose. It doesn’t help that our Governor thinks that its unfair that criminals are uncomfortable in jail and thinks they should be free. What about the safety of the good citizens who work hard, pay taxes and contribute?
That’s a nice set of Brabus Monoblock V wheels on that Mercedes. Used to have the same wheels on one I owned.
This is getting to be a spectator sport. Let’s go watch the parolees run from the police!!
