One man is in police custody and being interviewed in connection with the extensive robbery/ransacking of a home on Brown Avenue in Lafayette Monday night.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a residential burglary in the 1100 block of Brown Ave. at 8:45 p.m. that evening, and were eventually able to determine that a home had been robbed and clothing, jewelry and personal papers taken along with the owner’s car.
Investigators determined that the front door of the residence appeared to have been pried open sometime after the resident left their home at 12:30 p.m., locking all of the doors and windows. Neighbors somewhat belatedly told police they had seen a man carrying a large trash bag in the area earlier in the day.
Police recovered several evidentiary items including several credit cards and mail at the location where the man had been sighted, and officers canvassed the neighborhood in search of security camera footage of the suspects.
Investigators were eventually able to identify the vehicle used by the suspect(s) to arrive at the home and view the suspects leaving in the stolen vehicle. From all of this data, investigators were able to determine that two subjects had burglarized the home. The stolen vehicle was found in the City of San Francisco early Tuesday morning, with police officers in San Francisco detaining a man inside.
LPD Investigators responded to the scene and took custody of both the vehicle and the subject who had been in the vehicle. A significant amount of property taken during the burglary was also found inside the vehicle, according to police. The suspect, whose name was not immediately given, was later booked at the jail in Martinez for a variety of charges. LPD Investigators are now actively searching for the second individual involved in the burglary.
LPD Investigators are requesting that neighbors who live along Brown Avenue review their security camera footage for vehicles and pedestrians in the neighborhood between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. (the time period investigators believe the crime occurred). Neighbors with security cameras systems are asked to contact LPD if they have any footage.
Smile …. jerk.
Go home.
Good job/thanks cops! Hopefully they nab the second suspect and they both get locked up for a long time.
Love it. Are we seeing higher “clearance rates” for local crimes, or does it just feel that way?
@Chris – we are getting some tantalizing anecdotal evidence of high closure rates on the prosecutorial side of the local crime scene since cameras, license plate readers and other technology has been brought to bear. But we may require more time before we can state with surety that it is having as deep an effect as we hear. Any LEOs care to weigh in?
Thank you Lafayette Police!
Got a name or other info on the perp arrested?
@Bailey L – Not yet… still working that part. Trying to find a missing UPS driver at present!
