San Ramon police arrested the former treasurer of the Diablo Valley Youth Football League on embezzlement charges Wednesday after an investigation by police and league officials determined he’d stolen an estimated $200,000 during his tenure.
Investigators said Lynwood B. Peyton, 64, was taken into custody at 3300 Promontory Way in San Ramon at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Peyton served as league treasurer from 2007 to 2014. He was arrested following forensic analysis of his financial records, as well as those of the league.
He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility with a bail of $50,000.
Another one.
Yes lots of these cases these days sad to say. People get desperate and dip into the till. Thats not excusing it – – thats just the way it is. Financial problems? Gambling?
o no. How awful. Overheard people talking about this at the store this afternoon. Sad.
When people steal for that long it means there were no financial controls. I blame league officials for allowing this to happen, as much as I blame the scoundrel who stole the money.
Who knew $200K could go missing (and undetected) from a kids’ sports club!
In any case, it seems odd that they say he took $200K and yet set his bail at only $50K. I know, I know: he took the money over time and probably spent it– but still. Seems too low.
Any update on this case?
