A 52-year-old Fairfield man became the second person to die during a rainy, crash-filled Sunday on Interstate 680 after his pickup truck struck the center divider north of Marina Vista in Martinez around 3:10 p.m.
California Highway Patrol officers said the motorist was driving south on the freeway when his 1999 GMC pickup veered into the concrete center barrier several times before crossing back against traffic and eventually coming to rest on the right shoulder.
Firefighters found the driver, who was alone in the truck, unconscious and unresponsive. It does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor, according to the CHP, and it remains to be determined if possible medical complications were a contributing factor.
The motorist was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
