One person was killed in a flurry of isolated crashes – often reported just minutes apart – on I-680 from San Ramon to Alamo Sunday.
The fatal accident, still being investigated and cleared as this is written (12:50 p.m.) was reported at 12:18 p.m. on southbound I-680 at the Sycamore Valley Road offramp and was believed to have involved at least three vehicles.
Coroner’s deputies identified the victim as 51-year-old Maziar Maghsoodnia of Moraga.
Preliminary indications are that Maghsoodnia may have been walking on the freeway when he was hit. The precise cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Passersby and responding police and fire personnel reported seeing a body next to the fast lane and the wreckage of several cars blocking the slow lanes upon arrival. Maghsoodonia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The fatal crash was the latest in a string of mishaps, fender benders and more serious crashes occurring on the freeway from mid-morning into the afternoon.
I’m sorry to say this again folks, but you’ve got to slow down in the rain! I don’t care what kind of car you have, or how many wheel drive it has, you got to slow down or you’ll crash. I’m annoyed because I see these idiot drivers all the time, and I often see them crash, nearly pulling the rest of us in with them . Slow down !
Worse than that, other drivers react to and get into an accident while the driver who started the chain reaction usually gets away from everything. Drove by this accident today and it was one of the worst I have ever seen. Peoples lives were changed forever.
