Monte Vista High Invokes Active Shooter Protocol After Campus Threat Friday

No one in an official capacity is talking but the arrival of a substantial police presence at Monte Vista High in Danville this afternoon triggered an avalanche of requests for information from anxious parents and neighbors.

Parents and some students subsequently informed us of a school lockdown/security staging at the school with officers/deputies searching and clearing classrooms. We reported at the time there did not appear to be any imminent threat.

A Flasher in the area at the time wrote: “A friend just drove by the campus – there were just seven police officers at the school when they drove past and multiple sheriffs that are stationed along Stone Valley Road, watching as people drive past so it was something that they took quite seriously, especially being that none of us who liver nearby heard any sirens.”

Another updated with: “The high school MVHS was a gun on campus threat per my kid at school. Police cleared the campus and are staying onsite to ensure no issues. Classes are not canceled. Classrooms were instructed to use active shooter protocol including barricading doors and staying central to the room.”

A subsequent from the Office of the Sheriff reported the school received a threatening phone call from an unknown caller shortly after noon.

During the resulting investigation it was discovered that high schools in Alameda County and southern California received similar threats at around the same time.

If you happened to have captured photos/video of the incident please let us know via our Tip Line.

Once again, we must point out that the lack of critical information available during incidents of this type only exacerbates the spread of misinformation and anxiety among members of the public.
