Swalwell Accusations: Troubling Truths Or Strategic Assassination?
Editor;
By now most have heard of the accusations against local congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA14) and have had time to think about the implications and timing of the charges against him.
I’ll start by saying I was neither totally in his camp or opposed to his run for governor but I always felt he had common sense and a genuine feel for his constituents.
And now this – with the usual suspects screaming “where there’s smoke there’s fire!!!” and “believe all women!!” etc etc. I’ll just say that while the quickest way to ruin a political career used to be to level a charge of this type (except apparently in some cases where even an admission doesn’t carry any weight) part of me hopes Swalwell stands behind comments he has made and fights to prove the accusation untrue. Swear in the players and get them on the record. Prove what you charge in a court of law.
Politics was always a dirty game but never more than now. Dirty money is behind so much of what is happening these days. I’ve rejected most of the recognized media silos and don’t like to see that if Swalwell is forced out of the running our choices for governor will narrow to a county sheriff, a Fox News contributor or a billionaire among a handful of others.
We’ve been down this road before and we need to be careful.
Sincerely,
Conor Joffre/Pleasanton

The field of candidates running for governor is large, not small . Missing one won’t make a difference. Eric Swallwell’s democrate opponents were going to nail him during the campaign- there’s a lot he’s been covering up- I think one of them is already done the work with this leak. I think the nastiness is going to be on the Democratic candidate side as they try to Cripple each other.
Maybe we can draft Pete Buttigieg.
Time and investigation will reveal the truth with these allegations. Even if you put them aside, he has record of stretching campaign laws to pay personal expenses, showed poor judgement in his interactions with Christine Fang the Chinese spy, spent more time being a performative attack dog than legislating and has missed more votes in the House than the entire California delegation. I believe California can do better than him.
