A man was ejected and apparently seriously injured in a rollover crash on southbound I680 near the 24/680 split in Walnut Creek on Saturday, the crash drawing a rapid and sizable response from Samaritans and first responders after it was reported at 3:07 p.m.

The cause of the crash is apparently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, who were left to clear the highway of traffic and a debris field of produce in the truck and strewn across the highway when it lost control and rolled over.

Officers and firefighters found an occupant down in the roadway and offered assistance, eventually transporting the victim to John Muir Hospital with unspecified injuries.

Traffic built up rapidly behind the crash site as workers and first responders tried to clear the scene, eventually leaving some of the jettisoned produce to degrade naturally after reopening the freeway at about 5 p.m.
