Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the release of a man wanted for a murder in Washington state and jailed in Martinez Oct. 18 following a pursuit by officers from the Antioch and Pittsburg police departments.

The Office of the Sheriff reported Monday it is actively investigating the release of 20-year-old Isaiah Jamon
Andrews of Kent, Washington from the Martinez Detention Facility on October 22. At the time, Andrews had been held on local charges, a juvenile warrant out of Sacramento, and an out-of-state arrest warrant for the Oct. 15 murder of a 20-year-old man near Seattle.

After Sheriff’s Office officials realized Andrews had been released, spokesman Jimmy Lee said the department confirmed Andrews was no longer “in the area” after launching a search for the suspect. The search for Andrews is currently being conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service, Lee reported, while local law enforcement agencies
have also been notified to be on the lookout for him.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Andrews is asked to call 9-1-1. The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office can be reached at (925) 646-2441. For any tips, email: tips@so.cccounty.us or call (866) 846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message.

  1. “the department confirmed Andrews was no longer “in the area” after launching a search for the suspect.”

How can you confirm he’s no longer in the area if you don’t know where he is? Just because your search didn’t find him doesn’t mean he’s not here! Also, I think you’d better be addressing why it took five days to let the public know a murderer was accidentally released onto the streets of the county. Sounds like someone was hoping he’d be caught before the public found out! Pretty sleezy. That’s the M.O. of this Sheriff!

  2. There have always been plenty of screwups with out of state warrants, usually because of slow confirmation from the other agency. Of course he could never be held on a Juvi warrant thanks to our electeds.
