California Highway Patrol investigators say a 16-year-old boy died when he fell 75 feet from the Pomona Street on-ramp to I-80 westbound while maneuvering for a better view of an ongoing Crockett sideshow.

Officers were called to that location at approximately 3:26a.m. on Saturday after receiving calls of a large sideshow involving more than 100 cars at the intersection of Pomona and Merchant Street. Shortly after arrival, officers were informed that someone had fallen while climbing over a concrete safety barrier. Officers searching under the on-ramp found the youth’s body.

The victim, subsequently identified as Jose Cuevas of the Harbor City area of Los Angeles, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors report that the area has been the scene of regular sideshow activity for the past several years.

    • Apparently, right away… as others realized he had fallen, searched for him with their lights, and ultimately notified the CHP they believed he had fallen.
