Two people suffered critical injuries in a single car crash on southbound I680 just north of Highway 24 in Walnut Creek early Sunday morning, the vehicle catching fire after crossing several lanes and colliding with the center divide.

A woman and child were transported to local hospitals for treatment of major injuries once Samaritans and fire crews had freed them from the wreckage of their car – the crash reported just after 4 a.m.

Witnesses on the road at that hour reported seeing the involved car crossing multiple lanes before the collision, coming to rest in the southbound lanes where it eventually caught fire.

At least one motorist stopped to render aid until emergency personnel reached the scene.
