Two, possibly three thieves are believed to have surveilled, distracted and robbed a person sitting in a car outside the Bank of America branch at 2178 Contra Costa Boulevard on Friday, making off with a purse containing money and personal items.
The victim, who got out of their car to inspect a tire the thieves deflated, was aware she’d been targeted when one of the thieves entered the car after the driver exited – popping the trunk for an accomplice who accessed the trunk and stole the purse.
The theft, reported at approximately 2:11 p.m., was reportedly “substantial,” though no loss estimate has been given. The victim was reportedly shaken but unhurt.

I was in the parking lot of costco concord a few months back. As i was getting into my car i noticed an attractive young woman asking an elderly man to look at a (laminated) map for directions. As he was distracted a young man open the side door of the gentlemans car
I walked over and asked the elderly man if he knew this person. He got flustered and could not understand why I was asking him anything. The person inside the car immediately took off as did the young woman. The guy still could not figure out what was going on… I only hope they did not get away with too much. I notified Costco security and was told its a common scam.
Whoa. Thanks for taking direct action, Neighbor!
Thanks. My husband was not quite as happy with me…lol. But I just can’t stand seeing anyone being taken advantage of.
We get you…
