One person was ejected and killed when their vehicle rolled over after a reportedly abrupt lane change on the northbound I680 offramp to Monument Boulevard in Pleasant Hill Tuesday.

Passersby reported the crash at approximately 8:15am with police closing the offramp in order to facilitate their investigation.

The California Highway Patrol reported their officers responded to the off-ramp of Interstate 680 northbound to Monument Boulevard, to find a silver Lexus SUV overturned on the ramp.

Investigators determined the Lexus was traveling on I-680 northbound, just south of Monument Boulevard in the slow lane when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle suddenly turned to its right, crossed over the reverse gore point, and drove on to the Monument Boulevard off-ramp. The driver lost control of the Lexus, traveled up the left embankment, and ultimately overturned, according to the CHP.

Officers said the driver was ejected during the crash, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. During the investigation it was determined the driver was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash.

The I-680 northbound to Monument Boulevard off-ramp was closed at approximately 8:22 a.m., for on-scene investigation, and was re-opened at approximately 10:35 a.m.

  1. “The California Highway Patrol reported their officers responded to the off-ramp of Interstate 680 northbound to Monument Boulevard, to find a silver Lexus SUV, occupied by one male adult driver, overturned on the ramp.”

“Officers said the driver was ejected during the crash”
    Both cannot be true.

It does read as though at least 2 reckless driving decisions were made.

    • Our on-scene observation confirmed the driver had been ejected and was 20-30′ from where the vehicle came to rest.

      • My grammatical point is simply that he could not have “occupied” the Lexus in the state it is in when the CHP “find” it. The tenses imply they “find” him there, “occupied by one male adult driver, overturned on the ramp”, and it was inconsistent and genuinely confusing.

      • David,

If you’re concerned about roadway safety, perhaps you should become a reserve law enforcement officer. I did it for almost twenty years and wrote quite a few traffic citations.
