A Danville resident has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm following an armed standoff at his St. Norbert Drive residence early Monday morning.

Timothy Bancroft, 53, allegedly fired multiple shots during an incident which drew a county SWAT team to his residence in the early morning hours, police believing at least one shot was fired in their direction. Bancroft reportedly resisted police attempts to negotiate with him as well as those of an acquaintance to disarm him during the standoff.

With neighbors sheltering in place and drones hovering overhead, Bancroft was observed disrobing and submerging himself in a backyard pool before surrendering. Other weapons of unknown type were also reportedly confiscated by police.

Bancroft was expected to be arraigned Thursday in Superior Court. Records indicated he remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility with bail set at $200,000.
