UPDATE: 11:27 PM – Suspect in custody after dog bite. Firearm recovered at scene. Suspect subsequently identified as a 37-year-old Richmond man.
Original Story:
Police descended on a square block from the area of Clayton Road and Sutter Street in Concord on Thursday after officers reportedly exchanged gunfire with a suspect following a traffic stop in the area.
The man allegedly ran from officers who fired an unknown number of shots at him when he was said to have pointed a weapon at them.
Officers established a perimeter at the Big Wave Laundromat parking lot and pushed eastward as a sheriff’s department helicopter orbited the scene after the incident was reported at 10:13pm.
There was no confirmation of anyone being hit in the exchange and no officers were believed wounded.
Wow. Nice work to the photography department!
Good work!!!
Good dog!
Blue tape on the butt?
That was our initial assessment but we had no firsthand inspection.
Is that the gun?
Wow! What a nice piece of photography. Weegee like.
Thanks for those alerts!!!
Busy night?
Police exchanged gunfire. The cops need more practice at the shooting range, but glad they were able to make an arrest. Hope this individual is kept off the streets for a long time. Yes, great photo.
An “exchange” of gunfire infers that shots were traded by police and suspect. We have no information that this was the case. Our information was that an officer opened fire after either seeing the suspect with a firearm or the suspect level a firearm. We do have photos of the suspect running with what looks to be a pistol with a taped butt in his waistband. Police did not indicate he fired the weapon.
You guys are so fast!
Nice action pic. Until you’ve actually had to point a gun at someone, the readers comments are of limited value. And, it’s very difficult to hit a moving target with a short barrel handgun.

Oh, so happy that the dog got a chew toy.

Crazy good photos!!
Excellent photo. I can see that this guy is armed and in bustle even before canine release. Why the hurry, Mr. Nike Hightops?
He was scootin’, according to our Photographer Man – who managed to “capture” him on film. Another night on the mean streets.
