A man suspected of a theft/scam at the Moraga CVS store led police on a high-speed (too high speed for Moraga Road anyway) pursuit from Moraga into Lafayette before he was taken into custody at gunpoint near the Chevron station at Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Happy Valley Road.

Officers approached the suspect at the CVS location at 3:57pm and gave pursuit when he fled from them into Lafayette, officers there acquiring his car as it entered the city and pinning it in near the Chevron station.

The suspect, subsequently identified as Delvente Murry, 32, of San Francisco, was booked on charges of felony evading, hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of stolen property. Murry is being held without bail.

  1. Ford doesn’t make an Avalon. Toyota does… anyway lucky that this guy didn’t hit somebody head-on on the winding road back to Lafayette.

  2. Was the acquisition and pinning of the vehicle via a crash or was there some other reason the suspect needed a paramedic evaluation?

Also are we playing a matching game with vehicle makes and models? Chevy: Corvette. Tag you’re it…

  3. This Maroon Toyota Avalon was honking and trying to run me off the road from Lafayette Mt. Diablo Blvd TO Moraga CVS via Moraga Rd. I called 911 and watched the police find his car while the guy went into CVS. He came out, got into the car, and they pursued him immediately. Didnt realize the story didn’t end there and he made back to Lafayette. Full circle. Wow.

  4. The fastest drag race on Moraga Rd that I’ve seen. The Avalon was flying and almost crossed the middle lane right after the cross walk in front of the old Starbucks. 2 MPD vehicles were right on the back bumper. Have to think MPD has a speed limit they have to stay under for public safety. It was right around when the schools get out so lots of Campo walkers.
