The Veterans Memorial Building of San Ramon Valley will host a one day celebration event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the building. The celebration will be March 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building and along East Prospect Avenue in Danville.
Since 1925, the Veterans Memorial Building of San Ramon Valley has provided an activity center for the San Ramon Valley Veteran community, and Sunday’s event will continue that tradition with the following activities:
• Live music from San Ramon Valley Pep Band, 191st Army Band of the Wild West, and Monte Vista Jazz Combo
• Swing Dance Performances
• Scavenger Hunt and Art Activities for Kids
• Displays from Blue Star Moms, National Parks Service, Danville Women’s Club, and more.
• Vintage 1920’s Arcade Games
All are invited to visit the Veterans Memorial Building for a day long family friendly celebration. The UH-1 Huey Helicopter and variety of vintage vehicles will be displayed outside the building (weather permitting) along with live music, art activities for children, games, scavenger hunt and indoor displays depicting life in the 1920’s. In the event of rain, most of the activities will be moved indoors at the Senior Center and Veterans Memorial Building.
The Veteran Service Organizations organizing the event will also have 100th Anniversary Commemorative coins available as a fundraiser for the building. This classic building has played host to thousands of veteran activities as well as community events, attracting valley residents to downtown Danville for senior programs, parties, banquets, weddings, voting, library use and many other activities. In 2012, after more than eighty years of special events and wonderful memories, the Town of Danville and members of the community came together to support and celebrate the renovation and expansion of the Veterans Memorial Building at its current location, adjacent to the Danville Senior Center.
The event is free, and free parking is available on surrounding public streets and in all downtown Municipal Parking Lots. To accommodate the large outdoor displays and pedestrians, East Prospect Avenue between Front Street and Hartz Avenue will be closed.
The Veterans Memorial Building is located at 400 Hartz Ave. In Danville.
