California Highway Patrol officers briefly shut down Highway 24 in its westbound direction approaching Caldecott after occupants of one car reportedly open fire on another at approximately 10:27am Wednesday morning.

Officers closed the freeway to search for evidence and reportedly recovered shell casings believed to have come from the shooting. One car was believed to have been hit by gunfire, its rear window shattered.

All lanes of westbound SR-24 between Camino Pablo and the Caldecott Tunnel were temporarily closed for approximately 50 minutes while evidence was gathered. Officers determined the victim vehicle struck by gunfire during the shooting appeared to have been an uninvolved passing motorist and was not an intended target.

Reports that the initial incident was the result of road rage could not be immediately confirmed.

  1. I always check for n here after these things so I can read all the stellar crimefigjting ideas people come up with. Liked the perpetual cruising highway choppers idea. That was a good one.

  2. Of course it’s an annual tradition in the Los Angeles area for motorists to exchange gunfire on the first day of Spring. The tradition was immortalized in a Steve Martin movie.
