An apparent armed robbery at S&S Liquors, 3200 Willow Pass Road in Concord, ended with gunfire and a shotgun-wielding robber dead overnight.

The incident occurred just before 11:30 pm Friday. It appears a man armed with a shotgun entered the store and attempted to force an employee to open the store’s safe. Another employee, hearing and seeing what was occurring, intervened as the two men struggled over the shotgun – opening fire on the suspect and mortally wounding him.

The armed man was subsequently identified as Lucas Ray Smith, 41.

It is not believed anyone else was injured during the attempted robbery and shooting.

  1. That family run store gets hit all the time. Although this solution was not ideal, having a shotgun pointed at you isn’t either. If there’s any silver lining at all, maybe the next criminal will think twice about this, save a life. These things happen (armed robberies) and even safe drag outs after hours, almost nightly in our beautiful county. Any loss of life is just awful.

    • No. The armed gunman being shot and killed is awfully fantastic. Screw these criminals – they’re terrorists and the community is better off now that this one is DEAD.
