A flurry of gunfire erupted outside a popular Pleasant Hill restaurant Monday, sending witnesses scurrying for cover and at least one person to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.

Police were called to the area of Contra Costa Boulevard and Vivian Drive at about 11:49am Monday, witnesses describing a chaotic scene with many rounds fired at various cars in the area at the time.

Police located three vehicles that were involved in the incident with the driver of one of the vehicles, Larry Neal, 27, of Antioch-Brentwood suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. A 7-year-old child inside one of the involved vehicles also sustained minor injuries. Both were treated and released from local hospitals.

Police said the incident began as a custody dispute between the parents of the injured child and was not a random act. The occupants of two of the vehicles exchanged gunfire with one another at close range.

Alexis Sidney, 38, of Brentwood was arrested for felony child endangerment violations and for shooting at an occupied Vehicle.

Neal was arrested for felony child endangerment violations, for shooting at an occupied vehicle and for being a convicted felon in possession of a Firearm.

Both were booked at the Martinez Detention Facility.

  1. Saw someone hanging out the door of that Expedition as it was fleeing the scene and another woman chasing it. I thought someone was being abducted. Holy crap, wild times!

  2. And here I thought the earlier news of the Caldecott Tunnel MVA/fire; Moraga Way multi-vehicle MVA, Orinda house fire and the Lens Crafters-Concord situation, was “enough” for the a single day. But now afternoon gunplay in Pleasant Hill. Tis the season….Everyone be safe and vigilant !
