A circuitous air and ground pursuit of a suspected car thief snaked through Concord and ended in Pleasant Hill Wednesday after the alleged thief abandoned his vehicle and fled into the neighborhood.
The unidentified suspect was eventually pinpointed hiding under landscaping in the area of 50 Cleaveland Road – with the Sheriff’s STARR III helicopter orbiting the area and directing officers on the ground in to make the arrest. A sheriff’s canine did help flush the suspect, biting him about the head and cheek and requiring treatment for bite injuries at a local hospital.
Things kicked off with California Highway Patrol and Concord PD officers falling in behind the suspect vehicle, a black Nissan pickup, and following the operator as he attempted to evade pursuers through Concord and eventually on into Pleasant Hill.
A perimeter was established when the suspect abandoned his vehicle on Richie Drive and fled into nearby yards.
The odds are stacked against one trying to flee from pursuing authorities who have aircraft, radio communications and K-9 resources at its disposal. Good catch LEOs.
We know, hardly seems fair doesn’t it? But we’re still not getting them their own helicopters…

Are you just yet another liberal hack… “hardly seems fair?” …really… these suspects are criminals and pray on law abiding citizens and you think law enforcement needs to be “fair” while apprehending and getting these low life scum sucking criminals off the streets??

I need an all caps acronym to float on here too. I’m thinking DDD (“Don’t Do Drugs”), but DDD is already taken by Guy Fieri’s culinary travels and larger-sized undergarments.
This dog is not Lassie or Rin Tin Tin. It does not survey the situation and evaluate before attacking. It is trained to subdue whatever it is aimed at, although “subdue” is too nuanced for what it is actually trained to do. Pulling off pieces of the alleged criminal’s face during a pursuit is not good police work unless the intent of the police work is terror, and we have seen that before in wartime and in the struggle for civil rights.
I am glad that the perpetrator was apprehended and sad at how dark and low we have sunk in reverie.
Maybe next time he won’t run from police or better yet get a job.
