Twisty Pursuit Down I680 Ends With Dog Bite, Handcuffs For Car Theft Suspect Wednesday

SHARE

A circuitous air and ground pursuit of a suspected car thief snaked through Concord and ended in Pleasant Hill Wednesday after the alleged thief abandoned his vehicle and fled into the neighborhood.

The unidentified suspect was eventually pinpointed hiding under landscaping in the area of 50 Cleaveland Road – with the Sheriff’s STARR III helicopter orbiting the area and directing officers on the ground in to make the arrest. A sheriff’s canine did help flush the suspect, biting him about the head and cheek and requiring treatment for bite injuries at a local hospital.

Things kicked off with California Highway Patrol and Concord PD officers falling in behind the suspect vehicle, a black Nissan pickup, and following the operator as he attempted to evade pursuers through Concord and eventually on into Pleasant Hill.

A perimeter was established when the suspect abandoned his vehicle on Richie Drive and fled into nearby yards.

  1. The odds are stacked against one trying to flee from pursuing authorities who have aircraft, radio communications and K-9 resources at its disposal. Good catch LEOs.
