A rough night on the roads overnight and on into morning with crashes of all types taking their toll. This one, at Civic and N. Main in Walnut Creek last night, took some time to free the driver of the sedan and to clean up – with lots of debris in the intersection.
Sadly, things only got worse from there with a fatal collision on southbound SR242 when a driver struck and killed a bicyclist apparently riding on the freeway around 9 pm, police closing the Olivera onramp to the freeway to aid in their investigation.
Highway Patrol officers determined a white Yukon struck a bicyclist traveling within the slow lane of SR-242 southbound, north of the Olivera Road over crossing. CHP along with other emergency services responded to the scene to assist but the bicyclist was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Yukon cooperated with the investigation and impairment was ruled out as a factor.
At 10:26pm, a driver was found in a burning car on Kirker Pass Road in Pittsburg with injuries so severe he was taken to UC Davis Burn Center by air ambulance.
