New Family Justice Center Extends Survivor Services Network To San Ramon Valley

The new South County Family Justice Center now open in Danville will ensure that survivors of interpersonal violence (IPV) can access culturally and linguistically appropriate, trauma-informed services across Contra Costa regardless of age, income, gender, location or immigration status.

With this new office, the Contra Costa Family Justice Center expands from four to five warm and welcoming community-based center locations, reducing travel stress and expense for families seeking support, while helping to strengthen local community networks. Each Family Justice Center is a warm and welcoming hub providing a full range of co-located, direct services for children, youth and adults affected by IPV, including domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking.

Family Justice Center Navigators provide a single, trusted point of contact, helping survivors plan for short and long-term safety, and get access to resources including physical and mental health care, legal services, and housing.

“Domestic violence takes place in all segments of our community regardless of income, race, religion or culture. Children and youth are uniquely affected by exposure to violence. In wealthier areas, victims face challenges as abusers wield their money, power and influence to control relationships,” said Susun Kim, Executive Director of the Contra Costa Family Justice Center. “At the same time, Contra Costa’s immigrant communities need accessible, culturally competent outreach and services.”

In San Ramon, 44% of residents speak languages other than English at home; 37% of San Ramon and 17% of Danville residents were born outside the United States.

Children’s services and the new South County Center are supported by a one-year grant of $382,500 (October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025) from the US Administration for Children and Families’ Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services.
