  1. California isn’t as “deep blue” as it seems. 32 out of 58 counties voted in favor of Trump. More counties voted against Newsom as well. More populated counties lean blue.

I’m not a huge Trump fan, but he has a stronger following than Elvis. All he’s been through (including being a convicted felon) and he still won the election by a landslide.

    • More CA counties but FAR fewer people voted for Trump. That’s your point? We should tally counties rather than people, sort of like the non-democratic electoral college. Well, why not. Apparently, half the country doesn’t believe in one person one vote. So, why not, and why not call it “democracy”, because when in power you can call it whatever you want. Orwell taught us that.

      • No, my point was Republican registration is up in CA, and Democratic registration is down. Also, there are red areas in CA, not just blue. I would think CA would get bluer and bluer, but since 2020 it’s getting redder, but not red like it was years ago (Reagan, etc.). I don’t like the electoral college. Popular vote is common sense.

  2. So I guess this election was legit with no “fraud” like last time?? Happy to see Dems quickly accept the results without resorting to ridiculous and harmful claims with zero evidence, as happened in 2020. There’s a lesson to be learned here.

  3. PS: Already others are celebrating too: My friend works for a company that was going to do layoffs at the end of this year – but now after the re-election of Trump and the better business outlook, they’ve decided to keep everyone on!

  4. I’m with Indiana. I hate Nazis and snakes. Well, I just hate the poisonous snakes, but all Nazis, and I know a Nazi when I see one. Nazis love rallies that buttress that lack of self-esteem, insignificance, GRIEVANCE. Nazis love goosestepping in unison, but most of all, Nazis love to hate the “other” or they can’t be good Nazis. This is not news. History rhymes. Pay attention. No matter how loyal, your turn in disfavor will come, and you will not be so pleased. The inner circle of power is very small, and you are not in it despite your uber excitement, and your uber dedication to it.

  5. Rant: on.

I very much want Trump to succeed in general terms, because I actually love my country and its people. All of them. That’s as opposed to the GOP, who only want success on their very specific terms, which even they frequently can’t enunciate other than just saying “no” or “we don’t like you.” They have worked tirelessly to create an environment in which a total centrist and life-long public servant like Joe Biden could be vilified (FJB, anyone?) like he was some combination of Mao, Stalin, and Che Guevara. And meanwhile, a painted carnival barker and nepo-baby who lies as easily as he draws breath, brags about his extensive history of sexually assaulting women and girls, and spent years as Jeffrey Epstein’s BFF (among countless other things, any of which would normally be disqualifying) is actually described by his allegedly Christian supporters as having been anointed by God himself to save the USA from us heathens. How does that happen? Where are we?

While some folks are “celebrating,” others have ramped up their hateful projects and are taking the election results as a sign that their message is ascendant (Google Nick Fuentes as just one particularly vile example). Since Wednesday the assumption seems to be that it’s game-on for attacking “others.” It’s like pick-a-bias. If you’re a straight white man (like me), it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet of malevolence. If you’re black or Latino, you can just direct your hatred toward women, LGBTQ+, immigrants (and not just illegal ones), etc etc. But the project seems to be based on cruelty and punching down. “America First” really means “me first and eff your feelings – gimme gimme gimme.”

And Trump voters didn’t even get THAT right. His beloved tariff promise is sending shockwaves through the supply chain as US businesses try to stock up before everything they buy gets 20% more expensive – because too many of his voters (and maybe Trump himself) fail to understand that foreign countries don’t pay the tariffs, we do. Woo hoo! USA! USA!

Trump promises to “be your retribution” and that he will turn the military loose on those who dare to oppose him, because they’re “insane, stupid, losers, vermin, scum, the enemy within.” He casually suggests Liz Cheney should be put in front of a firing squad for failing to kiss the ring. And God help you if you try to meet that spirit in kind. The New New Deal is that certain folks must endure near limitless cruelty, threats, and often physical violence, and then the authors of that cruelty somehow get to turn around and clutch their pearls as hard as they can at the slightest hint of impropriety. It passed hypocrisy and cruised into abject lunacy a long time ago.

Oh, he’s also going to absolutely destroy many vital functions of our government and wreck the Judiciary for generations by packing it with unqualified 35 year-old ideologues. None of this is good for you, despite what you might believe. You won’t know what you’ve given up until you eat contaminated meat, or a nearby plant poisons your water, or you need FEMA, or there’s a pandemic, and nobody’s home. Again, I really hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am. Enjoy your low-cost eggs.

And the bridge people are just plain weird. Rant: over.

    • Whoa. Interesting rant and certainly welcome in our comments sections… but you guys are aware we have a Letters to the Editor option, right?
