A Little Trouble At Modern China… Fire On Saranap… And, Oh, A Presidential Election

SHARE

Bit of a riff off the 1986 film but a report of an armed man brought police on the run to the N. Main Street location Sunday night and the long hardware came out.

Not sure if anyone was detained/arrested ’cause the police don’t alway inform us of these things but the response got our attention and, yes, there was also a fire on Saranap Avenue last night… we’ll get to that in a minute.

And, oh, yes – there’s the little matter of a national election on the horizon. We’ll be watching to see how that goes along with everyone else.

  1. No gun was ever seen. Long story short, there was an argument at a previous bar, between a male and a couple, the couple left and the male later followed them re confronted them and then left and called the cops claiming he was threatened with a gun after invading their dinner and personal space . When he was basically harassing a couple eating dinner at a restaurant he wasn’t eating or drinking at and this guy was HUGE compared to them and was towering over them from behind with his hands on the backs of their necks. From my experience people who r threatened with guns don’t follow the people with guns and threaten them 🤦🏽‍♂️ and then play victim and call the cops. Just someone ruining everyone night because of personal bs. The cops made us all evacuate the spot long before close and no guns were found and no arrests were made.

  2. Walnut Creek quelled the unwanted guest at the restaurant very quickly. The fire at the storage place, was also quelled by our fantastic fire brigade, before it spread to many units! Even, with a utility repair that appeared to block Saranap, the fire units routed around it! This “Flasher” didn’t even know there is a storage facility across from “Hulls” Funeral Home! Let’s vote! Make news, make a difference!

    • Mr. Cannon! Cameras everywhere last night. And we’re adopting “Make News, Make a Difference!” as our new tagline.

  3. What Gerald said is accurate. I was at modern as well as the previous bar where the incident took place. No gun was ever seen at Modern last night. The “victim” just followed the couple there after said incident, harassing and confronting them in a very aggressive manor before leaving right before the police showed up. Idk what exactly happened at the first bar as I did not see the gun only heard whispers of it and who it involved…but all I kept thinking was, if someone pulled a gun on me and threatened me where I felt so unsafe I called the police- the LAST thing I would do would be to follow that person to another establishment and instigate further problems. The whole thing was very bizarre and to me seemed like the “victim” in this situation acted more of the aggressor from what I saw. Again, I do not know if a gun was really pulled on this “victim” but if it was, why wouldn’t they have called the police right away rather than following this person a block away to another bar, alone at night, and initiate any form of contact with them? If it were me, I would have called the police immediately after and stayed as far away from the person who had a gun as i possibly could….but that’s just me. Call me crazy 🤣

  4. James Hong and Victor Wong. What a pair of pioneers. The shit roles and caricatures they endured to pursue their craft!
Bravo! I salute the journey and the memorable performances!

      • James Hong is in my early movie memories of what is Chinese-American, and yet again in 2008, in The Day the Earth Stood Still (redux). We should all wish to age so well!
