A 16-year-old San Ramon Valley Unified School District student faces felony kidnapping and aggravated battery charges following a violent attack on a school official outside a Homecoming Dance at California High School in San Ramon on Saturday night.

Two youths, who are not being identified due to their ages, were approached by a female Cal High Assistant Principal in the parking lot during the dance. During that interaction, one of the students allegedly assaulted the school official before the pair exited the parking lot.

Neither the school nor San Ramon police have detailed the incident or why a kidnapping component was added to the charges. San Ramon police detectives reportedly brought their findings to the District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.

In a letter to parents, District Superintendent CJ Cammack said the offending student was identified and arrested later on the night of the assault. His custody status remains unknown.

“SRVUSD will also conduct a comprehensive investigation and will pursue all disciplinary consequences to the fullest extent permissible by law,” Cammack wrote.
