One Dead In Apparent Automotive Assault In Concord Sunday

One man was struck and killed by a driver outside Bonfare Market in the 2800 block of Grant Street in Concord on Sunday in an incident witnesses appeared to have been deliberate.

The incident was reported at approximately 7:45p.m. Sunday after a car reportedly veered toward and struck the victim near the gas pumps at the market. Police quickly swarmed into the area, attempting to locate vehicles in the area at the time as well as witnesses.

Officers found a 33-year-old man with traumatic injuries, officers and paramedics providing medical aid without success. Police determined the victim was intentionally struck by a vehicle driven by Alex Lazaro-Rosas, 22, of Concord. Lazaro-Rosas fled the scene but was traced to a residence a short distance away. He was eventually arrested for murder and booked at county jail.

Police said in a release posted Monday that the victim and suspect were acquainted. The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of family.
